The EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls welcome in import Zane Waterman for their second home match of the SalsNBL when they take on the Manawatu Jets at the Franklin Pool & Leisure Centre on Saturday night.
The short-handed Bulls pushed the Auckland Huskies all the way through last Sunday night’s season opener before going down in the final 10 seconds.
Six-foot nine power forward Waterman will give the home side some much a needed boost when they face the Jets, who open their 2021 season tonight against the Huskies in Auckland.
“Waterman got out of quarantine on Thursday and has had two good days of training,” Bulls head coach Jamie Reddish told Counties Sports Hub.
“He will feature in tomorrow’s game and will look to be an impact with his size and athletic abilities. However we are cognisant that 14 days in Managed Isolation has been tough on all the import players, playing in the SalsNBL.
The Jets will be coming off an opening week loss to the Huskies in Auckland on Friday night and Reddish is wary of the threat that they will present.
“The Jets will play at pace and have great shooters that will space the floor,” he said.
“Our transition defense will need to be creative to disrupt open perimeter shots.”
Tip off is at 7.30pm Saturday.
