The EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls are pleased to announce that Pukekohe local Joshua Leger will join the team for the 2022 Sal’s NBL season.
Josh is Samoan (Nofoali’i) who was born and raised in South Auckland. Josh is excited to return home, saying “I’m looking forward to the ability to play at home in South Auckland/Franklin and have all the people closest to me be able to be at every home game. The fans and community are passionate here and I can’t wait to play for them. Growing up in the area and seeing how they get behind local teams and individuals makes me extremely excited to take the court and put on a show for the people in South Auckland.”
Signing yet another hometown local player is the core of the Bulls programme. Head Coach Morgan Maskell is extremely excited to have Leger aboard.
“Josh is 20 years old with a fantastic basketball body, and a driven mindset. He still has a lot to learn tactically, but the potential is there. As a programme, we are going to invest in his goals and his development, and I personally believe his potential is very high,” said Maskell.
Leger knows he’s joining a programme that is invested in his development, saying “Morgan is a great coach who puts his players first and is a true student of the game. I can’t wait to play in his system.”
Josh is a 6’9 centre who played for the Nelson Giants in the 2021 Sal’s NBL season. The 20 year old average 2.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game in 2021. He was previously the EnviroNZ Bulls development player, but suited up for the Giants in the 2020 NBL Showdown.
Josh attended Mt Albert Grammar School in Auckland before playing in the 2020 Sal’s NBL Showdown for the Nelson Giants in his first year out of high school.
Leger is a familiar last name in basketball circles with his cousins Charlisse & Krystal both playing for the Tall Ferns and Washington State University currently.
Leger joins Denhym Brooke, Anzac Rissetto, Kane Bennett-Keil and Jayden Bezzant on the roster so far for the 2022 EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls.
