Bulls welcome young upcoming Import

The Franklin Bulls are thrilled to announce the signing of promising Australian big man David Okwera for the upcoming 2025 Sal's NBL season.

At just 22 years old, Okwera brings huge potential to the Bulls, having already gained valuable experience in Australia’s National Basketball League (ANBL) and on the international stage.

Born in Melbourne, Okwera began his professional career with Melbourne United (2021-2023) before joining the Perth Wildcats (2023-2025). In the 2024/25 ANBL season with the Wildcats, he played 23 games, averaging 7.9 minutes, 2 rebounds, and 1 block per game, showcasing his defensive presence and ability to protect the rim.

"We are excited to welcome David to our team for the upcoming season. He brings tremendous potential and experience for his age. His size and reach will be a valuable addition, offering us much-needed rim protection." Says General Manager, Jamie Reddish.

His talent was further highlighted on the international stage as part of the Australian National Team for the 2024 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, where he put up impressive numbers: 18.3 minutes, 13 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.

"David Okwera is an unique talent that fits to our idea to our development upwards. He is capable of playing multiple positions, and has a promising future ahead. We are committed to supporting his growth with all our expertise and excited to have him join us on Saturday." Says Head Coach, Sebastian Gleim.

Okwera’s signing strengthens the Bulls’ frontcourt, adding an additional defender, shot-blocker, and athletic finisher to the squad.
