The EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls are pleased to announce that fan favourite Denhym Brooke has re-signed with the team for the 2022 Sal’s NBL season.
The 25 year old forward had a breakout season with the Bulls in the 2021 season averaging 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. “There’s no doubt that in an injury-riddled season for our team that Denhym was our backbone. He was the only player to play 20+ minutes per game and suit up for double digit appearances last season!” says Head Coach Morgan Maskell.
Brooke has placed his faith in the Bulls organisation in every aspect. “I’m rejoining the Bulls because I liked what they were building towards last year and I feel like it’s the best place for me to continue improving my game. The team that is being built has something to prove, and I think we’re ready to put it all together. I’m really looking forward to playing with the group of guys we have signed, and can’t wait for our fans to see the announcements”. Brooke says,
Denhym is a fan favourite with the Bulls community, and Denhym sends the love right back to the fans. “Our fans are awesome! They supported us through the entire season last year regardless of the result. The community and the sponsors are all very welcoming. I hope we can perform well for them in the upcoming season!”.
A major factor in Brooke’s immediate re-signing was the franchise appointing Morgan Maskell as Head Coach. “Morgan really knows what he’s talking about in all aspects of the game. I enjoyed learning from him last season, it really improved my basketball knowledge.” Head Coach Maskell knows that Denhym is a vital part of the playing group, and looked to re-sign him straight away.
“Securing Denhym was important for our team. He was with us last year and improved a lot. Denhym is an athletic forward that can stretch the floor with his shooting ability, and is impactful on both ends. His potential is incredibly high, and he’s still just scratching the surface of his potential which is very exciting,” said Maskell.
Denhym is Maori (Nga Puhi) who was born and raised in Auckland, attending Rangitoto College, and playing reps for Harbour Basketball. He comes from great sporting pedigree with his uncles being legendary All Blacks Zinzan and Robin Brooke. Denhym was also a member of some New Zealand junior national teams in his youth career, before attending BYU-Hawaii and the University of Hawaii at Hilo in America.
Denhym returned to New Zealand in 2019, playing for the SuperCity Rangers in the Sal’s NBL before being drafted by the Taranaki Mountainairs in the 2020 Sal’s NBL Showdown prior to joining the Bulls in 2021. Denhym is the first player to be announced by the EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls. More announcements are to come.
