He was one of the many success stories of the 2024 season. He walk into the Bulls trials and the rest is history. Halasiale Maile (Hala) become not only one of the favourites to his teammates, but emerged as the Bulls' fan favourite and turning on some outstanding performances and averaging almost 7 minutes per game. Hala also played a key role in the Bulls' first ever Rapid League season.

 

One of Maile's highlight performances was dropping two daggers from the three to seal the deal for the Bulls in a dominant quarter-final performance vs the Wellington Saints.

 

The Franklin Bulls have always aimed to provide as much opportunity to local talent to trial for the NBL club, but it is very rare for a player to turn up, trial and end up averaging serious minutes in an NBL club.

 

"Hala's story is why we have committed to a trial process, rather than just holding a one off trial day. We now run three trial days and regular "invite" runs, run by Head Coach Sebastian Gleim." We are excited to welcome Hala back to the team and look forward to him playing a more pivotal role in the squad this year." General Manager Jamie Reddish.

 

Hala speaks on his journey through the trial process and becoming a pro overnight.

"My journey in to the Franklin Bulls has had ups and downs like any journey does. Being selected from trialing in 2023/2024 has been a huge blessing and one I will forever be grateful for. It was difficult, and tiring. My body hurt, my brain hurt, and there was so much learning and adapting, so much emotion, but I understood that there is no growth in comfort, and so I enjoyed the process."

 

Coach Gleim knows how important Hala will be as a leader in 2025.

"Hala was not only the fan favourite of the season 2024, he is a high character guy and a very important person for our team. We are very happy to have him back."

 

"As a local player from the Waikato region, Hala represents his community well and plays with inspiration by his work ethic, gritty play and willingness to do what is needed on court! This is something that has made him one to watch this season. We are proud to have him back". Adds GM Jamie Reddish
